Joan Rivers is considered a pioneer of women in comedy. Her piercing, often abrasive style could be considered the poster child for menopausal reactions (which she was displaying well before she hit middle-age years. Can you imagine what it was like for her when she was actually in menopause???) In 1986, Rivers became the first woman to host a late night network television talk show. Rolling Stone magazine ranked her sixth on its list of the 50 best stand-up comics of all time, and in October 2017, she was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame.
